NEW NORA FLITE'S BOOK!!!!! :D *dances around the room*
Though this is a collaboration you notice her special touch in some scenes ;)

Plot: forbidden love with a twist of scorching lust.

Characters: well developed. I liked both their personalities. She stood up for herself and showed she wasn't to be walked on.
I would have liked to know a bit more about Sara, her best friend. She was mainly in the background and I think her character could have played a bigger role.

Only flaw: the inner dialogue got a little old but nothing major.

I want another pleeeeease!

Steamy, taboo romance

Charlotte “Charlie” Laroche is a therapist, having taken a new job at a prison in New England. Owen Jenkins is serving time for murder he was convicted of at age 18. Now 28, he’s completed his reduced term for manslaughter.

Owen hasn’t seen a woman in ten years and the first one he sees— his rehabilitation therapist— he can’t get her out of his head. Charlotte also can’t stop thinking about Owen, nor can she get a grasp on the attraction she feels for him. When the desire becomes too undeniable, they give into this passion.

Though the story, told from their dual 1st person POV, is on the shorter side, it has a bit of a slow build as the two wrestle with their temptation to each other while he’s in prison. There are plenty of forbidden romances on the market to choose from and while some have become so common that the taboo has lost its stigma, this isn’t really the case with Chained. I think the danger of caving to temptation is easily felt, the risks heady, and holy cow is their first encounter hot and forbidden, not to mention unethical as Charlie well knows. The bound and shackled conjugal therapy session gets major points for originality.

Another plus, the romance focuses solely on Charlie and Owen, and Owen’s determination to make her his. The drama is mostly internal for 2/3 of the book and then external in the last 1/3 as Owen’s past catches up with him.

Overall, I liked both Charlie and Owen. Owen has been given a raw deal in life. He’s a little alpha when it comes to Charlie or even in general in the prison population, but he’s not over the top and Charlie knows how to handle herself. He appreciates her as a strong woman, and when the climax played out with Charlie being resourceful and keeping her wits, I thought she was too. I was a little disappointed in her reluctance about mid-way, but thankfully it didn’t last long. Owen’s integrity was very commendable. He’s a good example of not letting labels define the person underneath.

I really appreciated the low angst nature of the story. There were a few places I thought maybe the illicit aspect of it, specifically issues raised with her job, could have been cultivated further for a little deeper story. But for a hot forbidden tale with a bad boy who is NOT a manwhore and a pleasant (and steamy) HEA, this is one to feel safe about 1-clicking.

Annette Godtland is a computer programmer who worked at IBM for 20 years then Kingland Systems Corporation for 5 years. She now considersherself to be a hobby programmer. She particularly enjoys programmingcomputer games and working with all forms of computer graphics.

Many years ago, Annette created course materials and taught a beginningprogramming class for 4th through 6th grade students. adding several more fun and interesting games to continue building skills

This 3rd book continues the excellence of author Annette Godtland's superb series of Do It Yourself Java Games titles. This book requires the knowledge of the first two books, and builds upon that knowledge most notably by adding threads, adding several more fun and interesting games to continue building skills, and to a lesser degree also introduces MVC. This is a terrific book!

There are many Java books, but Ms. Godtland's books are unique in several valuable ways:

First, these books are project based showing you step-by-step how to build very good games; most other books are based on the building blocks of Java, like a chapter on looping, a chapter on decision making, etc., and then perhaps having a few projects at the end.

Second, the 2nd and 3rd (this one) books are entirely GUI based (Swing) which is what all programmers want to do! No one wants System.out.println() console programming beyond the beginner stage.

Third, most books are like reading a transcript of a teacher's lecture; Ms. Godtland is trying for the print equivalent of a Q&A dialog where every page has fill-in-the blank questions for the reader. This requires thought, patience and active participation from the reader which will certainly result in a better understanding of the material.

If I could suggest anything for the 2nd edition of this book it would be to add a program flow diagram at the beginning of each project. That is, first a picture of the final game screen like the books have now, then add a SW flow diagram to show the overall layout of what we are going to create, then go into the step-by-step. Not something as elaborate as UML, just a nice map of classes and methods for the big picture.

And if I could suggest anything for the 4th book, it would be to use JavaFX.

Same info as the newer edition

This edition is almost identical to the newest edition. I purchased this book for my child attending college. I purchased this book instead of the new edition because the only difference in the chapters is the fact that two of them are in different locations in the book. Other than that, it's the same info! There isn't any reason to purchase the newer edition. If you are looking to save money on books for college, always check out the earlier editions. In most cases, it's the same info rearranged. A little research can save a lot of money.

Get the Facts on Loose-Leaf

Just so you know, bookstores and book buyers only give you a fraction of the original cost of a traditional hardcover or paper bound textbook. If you buy the loose leaf version, you have the advantage of more portability (take only the chapters you need to class), insertion of your own notes within the chapters, and a much cheaper price to begin. Yes, you cannot sell it back to the college bookstore and book buyers won't take it. But the price you pay for the loose leaf up front is pretty much the exact same amount of money you would have been "out" had you bought the much more expensive version and then sold it back. So, the question you really have to ask is do you want to "rent" a hardcover or softcover that you will sell, or do you want to pay the same price and be able to keep the text?

Now, having said all that, as the author of this text, I encourage you to go out and buy the hardcover because I get more money that way! Hee, hee. Buy several, give them to your friends. Makes great Christmas/Chanukah presents.

Great Textbook

I used this textbook for my general psych class. I liked this textbook and thought it was very easy to navigate. It flows nicely and has good visuals. I hope my school continues to use this author's work, as it is very well-organized and made it easy to study for tests.

Overall, I liked this textbook and think others would, too. From what I gather, they have come out with a new edition. I'm not sure how different the two are, but if this edition is any indication of what we can expect from the author, the new edition should be just as good.

Simple and Direct, Yet Truly Focused

This is so simple, but it hits home. It's a different way to look at finances than most advisers give you. First look at yourself, then look at your money. It takes it from a Christian perspective, but it speaks to everyone, including non-Christians. It speaks to the modern day outlook of more, more, more, first, first, first. It reminds you what is important and helps put your priorities in perspective. This book first reminds you that what is important is your personal contentment, and how to live with what you have. It advises toward humility, self-respect, and personal obligations.Save for an emergency, don't get caught with huge credit card bills, no savings, and deep in debt. It advises you how to quit spending, look toward the most important priority; you pray to GOD about the bad times, why would you not pray about your money. You turn your life over to GOD for guidance and teaching, why not your money and sharing the blessings He has granted to you. This book gave me a new outlook on managing my money that no other book or blog on the internet has ever given. This is a great book to learn, study, and ponder a deeper connection with GOD from a point of view that very few actually advise. I know the bible says give everything you have to GOD, lose your life to Jesus, but I have never seen it written from a financial perspective that is so direct and simple.
