A fun read for any Tina Turner fan

This book is really interesting if you are a fan of Tina's (especially if you have read "I, Tina" or Ike Turner's "Takin' Back My Name"). What makes this book such a fun read is that it is written by someone who was with Tina from her days with Ike in the 70's, through the hard times after her split with him, and then right on up until she was about to become the superstar we know today - in many ways the most pivotol days of her career.
The book is surprising in that it talks less of the records Tina was releasing over these years than it does of her lovers, her moods, her friends and her relationship with her family.
The author met Tina when began a fan club for Ike & Tina in the 60's and throughout the years cultivated a friendship and business relationship with her as her personal assistant. He portrays a Tina we have only caught glimpses of before - Tina the shopper, Tina the perfectionist, Tina the party girl - but throughout it all always also shows a woman whose feet were on the ground and loyalties were strong.
One could argue that because Eddy Armani is such an admirerer of Tina's that the tone of the book paints her in the most flattering light - but it is still a juicy read chock full o' celebrities, scandal, sex and all of the trappings the you'd expect of a rock n' roll legend.
I found this book really enjoyable.

Good read, but you gotta wonder...

I know this guy had to be close to Tina-but you really gotta wonder with these kind of books, what is true and what isn't. Some facts don't really line up. He says he made Tina her first big wig and she wore it the night of the PRIVATE DANCER Tour that made it onto tape. Well, I had seen her well before that with the big wig. And it also says she opened for the Stones on their STEEL WHEELS tour...she didn't. That was in 1989, I believe he meant back in 80 81.

I'd just like to express my extreme disgust at the majority of the content of this frivilous book. Mr. "Armani" paints a picture of Tina that is growingly self-centered, manipulative and cold, which is precisely the opposite of "The Real T". He does a relatively good job at expressing his convictions and in trying to convince the reader of this, but, herein lies the key word "Trying". He certainly has not convinced me, nor will he. Anybody with half a brain knows that this guy is out to make money off of his 'idol'. Talk about hypocracy! Not only does he share with the entire world all of her most private and personal experiences, but he adamantly states that he would never "hurt or embarrass" her...hmmmm...I wonder what he considers this book to be doing....

Intense from beginning to end

When Evil Whispers

This is one of those books that's hard to put down! A very insightful, thought provoking, heart pounding book about the reality of the evil works of Satanists/Occultists in a small town and the Greater power of God. This is one of the best books I have read on this topic! The author, Tim Thompson stated "This book is not intended for a person just getting into spiritual warfare or a person raised in the church, this book is intended for those who are coming out of very evil and wicked sins, by helping people understand that no matter what sin you have committed, the blood of Jesus and Jesus Christ name is above every name!"

I highly reccommend When Evil Whispers for that same catagory of individuals and for mature believers in Christ. It is not "sugar coated". Not for the weak minded as it may be graphic and disturbing for some readers. Evil does exist and it is ugly.

The message the author wanted to share was lost

Like Demons Exposed, I think this subject can be better written that to give so much glorification to sexual immorality and then try to counteract it with a few pages of scripture verses simply listed without actually relating them to the previous book of sinful glorification. I'm sorry I wasted my money on this book.
Frankly I was so disappointed because this is a subject so dear to my heart since I minister to so many caught up in the paranormal and all things demonic. The subject is too important to waste by presenting the sins and God's instructions in this manner. How much better the book would have been had Thompson actually gone to the trouble of showing what God's word says about the sin and showing how God has conquered all sin through Jesus Christ throughout the book. To simply list a few scripture verses at the end just doesn't cut it. I think Thompson wants to show that any sin can be forgiven by God, no matter how foul and distasteful. But the story itself, although horrific, can be so titillating that one can read the book, skip the last 4 pages and miss the whole point he was trying to make.
Tim, this is an important subject and you have a lot to share - please try again.

This book inspired me to go back to school and straight to college after an unfortunate event that prevented me from finishing high school. The book mainly focuses on returning to school in California, so the information and suggestions may not be as relevant in your location, but it was enough to set me on the right path and the author's experience and success motivated me to try something I didn't think was possible: going to college without finishing high school. It worked and I'm now on my way to earning a bachelor's degree. Highly recommended.

Wow! This book is for the student but it turned out to be my BIBLE. It really helped me understand why my son was going through a difficult time. High School doesn't determine who your son/daughter will be in the future. HS isn't for everyone. That doesn't make your son/daughter any less than someone who stays in HS. Very inspirational!

excellent introduction to DSP

This is one of the best DSP books on the market today. As the title "First principles of ..." indicates the focus of the book is on fundamentals, it is designed for the beginning student and the authors provide many, many clear examples and illustrations to guide the student through the material from discrete systems to more advanced signal processing algorithms.
If you are the unfortunate victim of a course being taught with Oppenheim and Schafer's muddled text do yourself a favor and get this book as a supplement. It is complete with solved problems, questions with answers (to selected problems), it provides a necessary degree of mathematical rigor without becoming tedious and presents general numerical algorithms for solving major signal processing problems.
I took a DSP course from the principal author while he was compiling the notes for this text (and eagerly awaited the publication of his book) and I must say the result is excellent (so was his course) and very highly recommended.
One unfortunate attribute is the poor quality of this book's construction and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I purchased the book 10 years ago and the pages have yellowed very badly and the binding broke almost immediately. Although Addison-Wesley generally produces a superior quality book this one's binding is more like a typical Prentice Hall cheapo.

FANTASTIC DSP BOOK

Not only this is the best DSP book I have used , but also the
best written engineering book I have experienced in my career. Subjects are presented clearly and the author prepares you well for the next lesson. I have been able to acquire the DSP knowledge I wanted in a few weeks and without any professors.
Strum and Kirk are both great educators.

OK, but lacks depth

I came across this in a "signals & systems" course that was intentionally being kept gentle. This book worked well enough, for students who didn't need real analog analysis.
Despite its title, this is a more of a "First Course" in discrete signals and systems. It does not, in fact, derive much at all from first principles. The Nyquist sampling theorem, for example, not proven but taken as a premise.
If you want a quick view (or review) of digital signals and filter design without having to plod through proofs knee-deep, this might work for you - it works for me. It is not a title for the most serious student, though.
