Exactly what I have been looking for!

Just got my copy and I love it! A very nice collection of odus and he breaks down the general meaning of each Odu. Each one is in Yoruba and English. I have to say this is the most comprehensive book at the most affordable price I have seen. Most others start at 100 dollars, are out of print, or hard to find. Nice to see this so accessible to poor people who want to learn but dont have a hundred dollars for a book.

Beware of other reviews who judge the book by his ethnic background as Puerto Rican. People act like the African slave ships only stopped in Amerca and not all of the other islands and continents too. And beware of those who judge a book based on who the author knows... What is that about and what does that have to do with the book except that it's obvious people have personal axes to grind. Many jealous priests who still wish keep you in the dark so they can charge you thousands are making these comments.. And how are people who admit to not even having or reading the book aloud to even make comments? None of those comments have nothing to do with the actual content of the book . If you google any information about Ifa , you are likely to find valuable FREE information under the name Awo Dino and the Odu Access Network on Facebook where he provides thousands of Odus for free also. That doesn't sound like some one just trying to make a buck. It's an extension of his free work so those who say they can get it elsewhere, it's because they got it from him someplace else. What makes this book nice is the actual commentary about each Odu that helps you to understand what it may be saying in addition to having a good collection of odus in one book instead of thousands of web pages. For beginners and new Ifa initiates this is invaluable because there is no other book that has this kind of commentary in English.

Repackaged material.

This book is very disappointing. It is a compilation of verses of Ifa from other books. There is very little if anything that is new or not already published elsewhere. It is mostly if not completely a repackaging of "The Sacred Ifa Oracle" by Afolabi Epega. Yes, that book is out of print and very expensive, but the author of "The Holy Odu" should disclose the fact that this book repackages other published material to make it accessible to those who don't have the original version. So now I have two versions of the same material. I guess it will make a good gift to someone. Ifa a gbe wa ooo.

Ok, when I first thought about buying this book there was one post I really should hae paid attention to. I'm not saying some of the information in this book is not right but I am saying with iwa he should have giving when he got his information feom and given us facts as to when he got his information from. There are absolutly no referencs as to where he got his information from and about him state he had somekind of vision but waiting 11 years before he acted. I dind this suspect. In passing he mentioned his Oluwo just by name. So in reading about this guy he gave me tje impression he was saying he as almost self made. I have not read the book yet but I did come across a odu that I've seen beforeeword for word. So I can say je copied alots of otjer people works without giving anyone credit, which is really bad Iwa. Tjat to speaks about the guy who wrote the book. Only being iniatated for 4 years and already writing an odu book??? Ummm he got me hope you read tje baba post that knows about this guy.

Henry Green was the pen name of Henry Vincent Yorke. He was born in 1905 at the family home of his parents, near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England, and was educated at Eton and Oxford. He worked at the family engineering firm for most of his life and pursued a parallel career as a novelist. He married in 1928 and had one son. During WWII he served in the London Fire Brigade. He died in December 1973.

Author is out of touch

I feel that this author has no clue about teenage girls. It makes me wonder if she knows any teenage girls, or even remembers being one. Teenage girls do not wish they looked like Kate Middleton so that they can marry a prince. They want to look like Katty Perry so they can be a star and make their own way. I also don't think that very many of them wish that they can learn to cook so that they can help their rich mother who does not work outside of the home. She portrayed the character as if she was 10 instead of 15. I also have trouble believing that anyone in highschool really cares about someone wetting the bed years ago. The story was not a reflection of any teenagers that I know or even read about in other books. It took alot of effort to get through this book. The story was very flat. Her characters did not come to life so it was difficult to feel anything towards them, or to relate to them in any way. I also read "A week in December" and felt the same way. I find this author to be dull and boring and will not be reading any more of her books. It's just not worth my time or money.

Lacked emotion but still worth the read

Rosie Patterson is the target of a bullying campaign at her school. What starts as just teasing from a group of girls, turns into full on abuse. The ultimate betrayal that Rosie receives is her best friend and next door neighbor, Meg Giroux, lets slip a big secret that is used to humiliate Rosie in front of the entire school. This pushes Rosie over the edge and into a downward spiral and ends with self-mutilation. The aftermath ends up tearing apart not only Rosie's family but also Meg's. Both families must come full circle and learn to forgive and move forward.

I am going to be completely honest and say I felt no emotion while reading Last Summer. I was fully expecting to be torn apart due to my own personal experiences but instead I felt I was just reading a story. Chamberlin didn't pull me in. After reading the Q & A at the end, I figured out why. Chamberlin has never experienced bullying or any of the after effects., she has only researched it because she was asked to write a book on bullying. The storyline was well thought out but it is missing that emotion that needs to be incorporated to pull the reader in and make the impact that it should. I would still recommend readers to pick this book up just because Chamberlin does tell the story from many POVs and the reader realizes how bullying can affect the victim but also ripple thru everyone associated with the victim.

Last Summer - A Read To Remember!

This novel centers on The Patterson family and The Giroux family; especially the mothers and daughters. Have the events in this story destroyed the relationship between the families? I hope you get a chance to read this book and find out for yourself.

Rosie Patterson and Meg Giroux have been best friends for a long time. They have lived next door to each other for years. Jane Patterson and Frannie Giroux also have been best friends for a long time too.

Over the years Rosie and Meg have confided many secrets to each other. Both girls trusted each other to keep those secrets and they both have up until now. Meg is an outgoing young lady that can stand on her own two feet. Rosie on the other hand is a little more on the timid and laid back side.

It seems for months Rosie has been picked on by several girls in and out of school. Meg doesn't like that Rosie won't stick up for herself. In a moment that Meg instantly regretted she blurted out to the leader of the girls that have been picking on Rosie a secret about Rosie. Of course, the secret was spread around school by these malicious girls.

The damage done to Rosie was pretty bad. There was more abuse and bullying that came out in this book. I don't want to spoil it for the reader. I found myself wanting to fight for Rosie. I wanted Rosie to tell someone!

The relationship between Rosie and Meg and between Jane and Frannie is understandably strained. Will there be healing and forgiveness? Can Rosie ever trust Meg again? Can Jane and Frannie get their relationship back on track?

Bullying is never an act that can be condoned. I think more public awareness is needed. Parents as well as school officials should always be on the alert.

This is the first book I have read by the author Holly Chamberlin so I can't compare it to her other novels. I was impressed with the subject line that she chose for this book and I feel she did a great job getting her point a cross in the telling of this story. I am looking forward to reading more novels by her.

Not only Dr. Hotez is the leading authority in the field of Neglected Tropical Diseases but also he manages to transmit his passion in a very easy and entertaining book. Loved it. But beware! It might change your career pathway!
